What happens when municipal professionals from across Ontario come together to share ideas, ask questions, and learn from one another?

Over 100 attendees from 35 municipalities came together in Brantford, Ontario, on September 22 for Cloudpermit's inaugural customer conference, a day focused on learning, collaboration, and the future of local government technology.

Throughout the day, attendees explored new and upcoming Cloudpermit capabilities, heard directly from other municipalities, and met one-on-one with Cloudpermit staff to discuss their processes and questions.

A Look at What's Next

Attendees got an early look at how Cloudpermit continues to evolve to meet the needs of municipal staff and the communities they serve, including updates to online planning software.

They also saw detailed demonstrations of new features, including an Application Wizard that guides applicants through municipal requirements and AI Cloudcheck, which uses AI to identify potential issues in application documents.

I'm excited to see the newer changes to the system to make sure that it's as user-friendly as possible, which will make everyone's life a little easier,” said Julia Schlumpf, Building & Planning Admin for the Municipality of North Perth, Ontario.

Learning From Other Municipalities

The conference also gave attendees a chance to hear from peers about how they're using the software in their own communities.

Jeff Medeiros, Manager of Development Planning for the City of Brantford, shared how bringing departments into Cloudpermit has changed the way information moves through City Hall. Before Cloudpermit, he said, departments relied on different tools and duplicative processes.

It's allowed us to share records more efficiently with each other,” he said. “It's allowed us to collaborate better.”

More Than Presentations

Alongside the main presentations, attendees could visit a nearby huddle room to sit down with Cloudpermit staff, ask questions, and talk through their municipality's specific needs.

These are just opportunities to really sit down one-on-one,” said Rafael Meante, Building Inspector for the Town of Innisfil. “It's always nice to see somebody face-to-face rather than submitting a ticket.”

Dora Coll, Development Planner for the City of Brantford, said it was helpful to learn about Cloudpermit's future roadmap and how to make the most of the software.

I thought the conference was good,” she said. “I learned some new things that are in the works.”

Bringing Customers Together

Connecting directly with Cloudpermit and peers facing similar challenges was at the heart of the conference.

I think it's great. The collaboration is fantastic. I think for us, being able to meet all you guys in person makes a big difference.”

- Kris Olson, Manager of Corporate Information for the City of Brantford, Ontario

Brantford's Deputy Chief Building Official, Rob Porteous, also appreciated the chance to learn more about Cloudpermit's features for municipal staff.

The conference was really helpful,” he said. “I learned a lot of new stuff, and it's good to hear of what's coming, too.”

Software That Fosters Collaboration

Lianne Slichter, Cloudpermit's Customer Success Specialist, said the event was a success and the result of close collaboration with the City of Brantford.

Bringing so many of our customers together created an opportunity for municipalities to learn from each other, share best practices, and connect directly with our team,” she said. “That kind of collaboration is exactly what we hoped this conference would create.”

By the end of the day, attendees left Brantford with new ideas, answers to their questions, and connections with other municipal professionals doing similar work.
